Nu Moment

A collaboration with The Decorators on a temporary installation and hang out space commissioned by Kings Cross and Central Saint Martins (CSM). I supported the development of design along with prototyping and testing of materials.

The installation draws on historical references of the 1990s honouring the rebellious spirit that once defined the area. In considering the current dynamics, we aimed to preserve these influences while providing opportunities for young people to shape the future. The design took on an anthropomorphic appearance drawing on these references but also channelling a fun and weird presence; confused without a clear identity, almost a bit like being a teenager beginning to navigate society. We wanted to take that feeling of being misunderstood at that age that we have all experienced. The installation provided a space for performance and creative expression, engaging local youth with a programme put together by Fishtank to showcase their passions and talents.

My contributions focused on developing the initial design concept through prototyping and material testing to explore the possibilities of production. I produced a mock up of the monument using metal framing and paper mache, this informed the materiality of the final installation. I also contributed to the development, programming and production of the giant 'pillow arms' sourcing second hand and waste material to create the pillows.
