CSM MA Fashion Show 2022 'SHINY SHINY'
20th February 2022
After a two-year interruption due to the Covid pandemic, the project presented an opportunity to highlight the delicate nature of design work and its ongoing engagement with concepts of beauty, validation, and commercialization. Given the current backdrop of various global crises, we deemed it appropriate to create an event that unveiled the behind-the-scenes aspects of our college, a place where we collectively and creatively organize our often tumultuous daily lives. The design concept revolved around utilizing discarded and "waste" materials, pre-existing furniture, and reusable items sourced from various locations within CSM over an eleven-week production period.
The runway was adorned with a variety of school chairs borrowed from classrooms throughout the school, including the iconic orange, yellow, and blue chairs designed by Robin Day, which not only accommodated 300 guests but also doubled as sculptural elements. We were able to create six large-scale textile sculptures by collecting off-cuts from MA Fashion and disused objects from MArch. The outcome was a cost-effective yet visually impactful show that allowed us to establish an emotional connection with our peers in the fashion field and, hopefully, with a broader audience.
